April 2021 HRSM meeting minutes

Club President Mike Hilliker brought the meeting to order at 7pm. Seven members were in attendance. Room setup and ‘wipe down’ was accomplished in quick order beginning at 6:30 pm as planned. Once cleaning solutions were applied and allowed to ‘work’ for 60 seconds, a quick wipe-down ensured the chairs and tables were dry.

Old business:

Club members took time to reminisce on deceased members John Nugent and Bill Brickhouse, who had passed away in February 2021, as well as club friend Ellie Merriman, David Merriman’s lovely wife. Also spoken of fondly was Mike Hilliker’s stepfather, David. All will be missed greatly.

During the club’s dormancy, there was no activity, nor meeting room expenses. However, Gary Telecsan submitted the IPMS/USA Chapter renewal fee on time so the club’s charter would not lapse. Club dues were discussed but were deferred until there was a greater attendance since the club’s treasury remains solvent.

New business:

To provide an alternative to the club in-person meeting, a Zoom meeting was tested using a phone hotspot to connect to the internet. This was successful and points to an option the club can further explore for the upcoming May meeting. A test Zoom meeting will be set up for the weekend prior to the next club meeting to allow anyone who might wish to test their Zoom access and hardware compatibility the chance to do so.

The rest of the meeting was taken up by the planned ‘Show and Tell’ of ‘quarantine’ projects and general modeling discussions. Those models are described below.

Ed Rose‘s 28mm scale Warhammer figure. And yes, the arms are attached with magnets!

Ken Chord’s very clean 1/48 Airfix Hurricane build

Bob Bradford‘s 1/72 Monogram (with Starfighter resin and PE upgrades) P-6E Curtiss “Hawk”

Greg Robinson‘s 1/7 scale resin ‘garage caster’ kit figure of the Evangelion anime character “Asuka Langley Soryu”.  He airbrushed it and did hand painted the face details.

Robert Beach‘s modified and detailed 1/12 Moebius (ex-Aurora) “Wonder Woman” on a custom base.

Mike Hilliker shared his in-progress 1/35 Tamiya ‘M2 Bradley’ AFV project. He noted how he was experimenting with hand brushed finish modulation, varying the direction of the layers of slightly differing hues of the base colors.
